Kelvinator Stove

Kelvinator is a historic appliance brand, primarily known for its innovations in refrigeration, but it also produced stoves and electric ranges as part of its home appliance line-up. The company was founded in 1914 in Detroit and initially concentrated on mechanical refrigerators before expanding its product offerings[1][3].

In 1937, Kelvinator merged with Nash Motors to form the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation, a move that further diversified the company’s product range. While refrigerators were its flagship product, Kelvinator stoves—particularly electric ranges—were praised for their quality and features, such as early self-cleaning ovens[2]. Throughout the mid-20th century, Kelvinator appliances were regarded as upmarket options in the American market[5].

After several mergers and acquisitions, Kelvinator became part of American Motors Corporation in 1954, and later, the brand was acquired by White Consolidated Industries in 1968. Since 1986, it has been under the ownership of Sweden’s Electrolux, which continues to use the Kelvinator name for selected appliances[3][5].

Vintage Kelvinator stoves and ranges are still sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their retro design and reliable functionality. Models from the 1960s, for example, often featured distinctive styling elements and technological advancements of their time[2][3].
